Hassan was new to the country and joined Endeavour Education Centre in the academic year 2015 – 2016. He was an exceptionally driven young person who was very academic having received a traditional education. Endeavour provided a variety of opportunities to Hassan including personal development, social action and experiential learning. Hassan struggled with this and initially couldn’t see the value in anything other than what he considered to be academic learning. Endeavour contacted Hassan in October 2020 to find out how he was getting on. After leaving Endeavour (with 6 GCSEs!) Hassan attended Longley Park Sixth Form College. He is now in his final year at Sheffield Hallam University and is studying Biomedical Science. He also has a part-time job. Hassan is currently well, he feels blessed that he and his family are well and he feels happy. Hassan attended Endeavour for only a few of months and describes initially hating it; he came from a good background and questioned what he was doing here. He had never even caught a bus before so this was a real challenge for him and he felt that his English was poor. His hope for education was lost at this point. Despite this, Hassan describes how Endeavour gave him hope and it (and the staff) pushed him. At the end he really enjoyed Endeavour. Each member of staff contributed to his knowledge and personal development. Hassan spent some time on Endeavour’s Board of Trustees as he felt he wanted to support other young people and give something back.
