Dear Supporter,

Happy belated New Year from all of us here at Endeavour. Through the winter months we worked hard to ensure our young people had access to new and exciting activities such as; ice skating, Peak District residential, bouldering, Natural History Museum, Coal Mining Museum and we even took our primary students to the Panto! Oh Yes We Did!

Alongside all of this, we have been exploring with foods having our young people make dishes from around the world, including paella and bao buns! None of this would have been possible without your donations, dedication and support.

We also had medical students on placement with us which has given our young people the opportunity to learn about the medical profession as well as healthy living.

Latest Updates & Impact

Dear Supporter,

Welcome to the first edition of Endeavour’s new newsletter. This special Winter Edition will be followed, from Spring 2024, with regular monthly updates.

We are proud to open this newsletter with the results of some impact reporting we recently undertook which clearly demonstrates that Endeavour consistently provides a positive impact on young people’s access to green space with significant benefits for young people’s mental and physical wellbeing:

Untitled design (1)

As we approach winter, ensuring fair access to adventure and the outdoors becomes ever more expensive. Endeavour provides new outdoor clothing, pays for access to facilities like indoor climbing walls, has to provide lunches and cover transport costs. At the same time there are ever greater pressures on young people’s mental and physical health, more time indoors, dark nights, approaching Christmas pressures, etc, making our service even more crucial for the development and wellbeing of young people.

One small action you can do to help is send the Endeavour virtual Christmas Card.
This will not only help us raise funds to truly democratise adventure but also spread the word about the work Endeavour undertakes.

By buying and sharing this card you will both help us pay for those essential elements of our delivery we've outlined above but also help raise our profile. All of this will help us help young people reach their peak. Thanks!

Need a Christmas Walk? Here is Ed's (CEO) favourite route!

This fantastic and exciting walk starts at Surprise View car park, heading uphill past Mother Cap, to Owler Tor, before returning to the car park via a very adventurous path beneath Millstone Edge. There are fantastic views, rocks to be scrambled over and some interesting archaeology en route.  It is a short walk, which should comfortably take less than 2 hours, however, it is very uneven underfoot and occasionally exposed (so only set off on this if you are comfortable with that).  This web page has some photos, a description and gpx file for the walk: Click Here

YesTax have pledged to support Endeavour's Adventure Fund by donating £5,000 a year!

Creating Adventures for young people is Endeavour's bread & butter - using the wonderful environment of the outdoors & the challenge of physical activity, young people come away from spending time with us in the outdoors feeling challenged and fulfilled, having achieved something they never thought they would.

That's why we've launched our Adventure Fund for 2022 - to enable us to offer outdoor residential experiences to young people who might not normally have access to the outdoors. Last year we took groups of young people on residential trips to Snowdonia, North Wales; Canoeing along the River Wye; Camping at Hagg Farm; and Tall Ship Sailing in Ipswich with The Cirdan Sailing Trust. Working with young people from various backgrounds, some were new arrivals to the country with very little English, some were looked after young people in sheltered accommodation, we found that the residential experience was completely unique and something they'd never had the opportunity to do. Many of them had never been to a beach before, never seen the ocean, and never experienced a Holiday.

We are delighted to be partnering with YesTax, who have made a generous donation to our Adventure Fund, and pledged to donate £5000 per year, which will go towards funding more fantastic experiences for our young people this summer and beyond!

YesTax have a vision that tax shouldn't just be about taking, but giving too. Right from the start, they implemented a policy where 2.5% of their invoices goes to children and charities worldwide. They formed a foundation to help disadvantaged and vulnerable children around the world and have donated over £145,000. We are so grateful to be working with YesTax to create fabulous adventurous experiences for disadvantaged young people across the region.

"Some of our proudest moments come from the outdoor activities for young people that have been integral to our work since we were established in 1955. Taking young people from the urban into beautiful outdoor environments immediately creates a liberating, safe environment that allows individuals to open up and view their personal challenges and aspirations from a new perspective."

Are you looking for a physical challenge this year? Want to raise money for a grass roots organisation that supports young people to reach their full potential?

On Saturday April 23rd, we'll be taking to the Peaks yet again, and you can join us in the scenic Yorkshire Dales for the classic challenge of scaling the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in under 12 hours! Do you have what it takes?

The route takes you through some of the finest scenery and views that Yorkshire has to offer. Take part in this challenge to raise money towards the valuable work Endeavour does with marginalised and vulnerable young people and in return let us take -some of- the pain out of completing the challenge.

It costs just £200 to enter a team of 4, and for that you will get full event support from our experienced staff team, pre event fundraising support, a mountain leader to guide you along the route, food and rest stops throughout the day, and a well-deserved home cooked hot meal and beer when you've completed the challenge.

So, if you and a 3 mates are up for a great day out hiking and raising money for a worthy cause, then this is the challenge for you. All we ask is that your team fundraises a minimum of £500 for Endeavour.

Moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach, Endeavour hopes to change the lives of young people by investing in them as individuals first and foremost, teaching skills that often make a life-changing difference.

Endeavour also has an array of qualified instructors helping young people learn and achieve in a variety of teamwork and leadership skills, trust-building, and provide outdoor experiences which many young people have simply never experienced before. From abseiling and canoeing, to helping the local environment by litter-picking, and assisting the elderly in retirement homes, we are proud to have the opportunity to empower the lives of young people.

We firmly believe these experiences not only empower young people but enrich the lives of everyone. Endeavour is excited to announce bespoke ‘Team Day’ packages for your corporate team, allowing professional teams to get closer, have fun, and learn what we do whilst also directly contributing towards Endeavour's mission in helping young people.

We are ecstatic to announce our partnership with MOORE Insight, a growing SME based in the South Yorkshire who is committed to supporting young people across the nation.

Through its inspiring recruitment drive employing high-skilled graduates throughout the RISE scheme, (particularly through a difficult time in terms of young people’s employment opportunities), MOORE Insight’s values firmly align with Endeavour’s in terms of empowering and supporting the personal development of disadvantaged young people.

MOORE Insight is a management consultancy firm based at St James House, Sheffield. They pride themselves on ‘making systems work’ for organisations across the public, private and third sectors.

They have an extensive portfolio in supporting organisations to understand the core business systems that are 'fit' for their client organisations' size and complexity.

MOORE Insight’s values firmly align with Endeavour’s in terms of empowering and supporting the personal development of disadvantaged young people. An example of this is the recruitment drive employing high-skilled graduates throughout the RISE scheme, (particularly through a difficult time in terms of young people’s employment opportunities).

Kate Hill from MOORE Insight and Duncan Pearse from Endeavour.

The dedicated team at Endeavour delivers a variety of both traditional and more specialised educational subjects, from English and Maths to mental health and career planning support. We also specialise in corporate away days, demonstrating that many of the team-building practices are beneficial for people of all ages and particularly in companies where team morale is crucial.

Our very own Duncan Pearse, CEO of Endeavour also commented on our exciting new partnership with MOORE Insight:

"At Endeavour, we hugely appeciate the effort that MOORE Insight have put into this partnership with us and we are so pleased that they have made such a generous commitment to support our charity.

Given the challenges charities currently face, corporate support such as this is invaluable in enabling us to continue to deliver valuable services to young people."

Duncan Pearse, CEO of Endeavour

In selecting Endeavour as their partner of the year, MOORE Insight is committed to a fundraising target and will offer volunteers to the charity, as well as provide business support for the charity where required:

"When we were introduced to the team at Endeavour, we saw an extremely hard-working charity doing some great things within the local community. We immediately felt that their mission aligned very strongly with our own ambition as a growing company, to support young people.

As a learning and development focused organisation, we know how important it is for young people to get the support they need in order to reach their potential.

We've worked with so many young people over our 30 year history and felt that this year, we really waned to give back to and support young people even more within our local communities.

We really want to encourage more businesses across the region to get involved in supporting the charity and others working closely with Endeavour."

Kate Hill, Head of Business Development & Marketing and Social Value Coordinator at MOORE Insight

On Saturday the 22nd May, 9 teams took part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, taking on the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in 12 hours, all to raise money for Endeavour.

The day began early in Horton in Ribblesdale with all 36 walkers setting off between 7:30 and 8am. Each team had a mountain leader to guide their ascent, and along the way had pit stops provided by Endeavour with sarnies, snacks, fruit, teas and coffees. Each pit stop gave our walkers the chance to refuel and recharge, tend to sore feet and muscles, and have a good natter with each other and our staff.

We ended the day at the Horton in Ribblesdale village hall with well deserved beers and fish & chips provided by Let's Go Street Food.

Our walkers fundraised a massive £10,587 which will go towards the work that we do with vulnerable young people. Thank you to everyone who got involved and donated!

If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that the smallest things can make the biggest
impact and there’s no better example of that than Run for Heroes.
That’s the charity which started the infamous 5km running challenge - Run 5, Donate 5,
Nominate 5 - during the first lockdown.

What started as a plan to raise £5,000 for NHS charities at the beginning of the Covid-19
pandemic went completely viral on social media, becoming a major fitness motivation and
fundraising tool for more than a million people.
Since its humble beginnings in 2020, Run For Heroes has raised more than £7 million for NHS
Charities and founder Olivia Strong has been awarded an MBE.

After the success of the original fundraiser, the nation is once again being encouraged to get
active in the name of charity as lockdown restrictions continue to ease.

Run for Heroes is launching its latest challenge by turning the month of May into a
celebration of physical activity with their 5kMay campaign. Everyone is invited to take part,
including Endeavour's supporters.
As the name suggests, it’s all about getting fit and hitting that 5km target. It’s not just about
running though - you could walk, roll, skip or even swim your 5 kilometers if you wish! All
that matters is getting your body moving and raising vital funds for a charity of your
choosing.

Run For Heroes has partnered with a host of charities across the UK for 5KMay, with participants encouraged to consider donating to local charities like Endeavour after completing their challenge.

You can take part on your own or as a group, donate your £5 to Endeavour, then nominate 5 friends or family members to complete their own 5km challenge.
With famous faces like Mo Farah, Ellie Goulding and even Prime Minister Boris Johnson
backing previous Run For Heroes challenges, you may even spot a celebrity while out on
your 5kMay journey!

With support from our friends at Soar, Voluntary Action Rotherham and The National Lottery Community Fund, Endeavour have been running an exciting and enriching holiday activity programme.  By ensuring that strict social distancing guidelines are adhered to and by working in small groups and bubbles we have been able to continue offering safe and secure activities during the Covid-19 pandemic.  Our activities improve mental and physical well-being by reducing isolation, encouraging physical activity and challenging people to step outside of their comfort zone. This creates a golden opportunity for personal development, empowering young people and their families to build self-esteem, confidence and aspiration, as well as develop their team work and communication skills.

December half term saw Endeavour deliver a huge variety of outdoor activities for our participants. We had SO much fun working with groups of all ages! We explored caves in Stoney Middleton; took a paddle down the Sheffield canal in canoes; scrambled and weaselled around rocks at Higger Tor and Surprise View; adventured in the snow; challenged ourselves with obstacle courses and climbed loads of trees!

We'd like to thank everyone who came along this half term, your enthusiasm and willingness to have a go (even when it was cold and rainy) helped make the programme so enjoyable. We hope you had as great a time as we did, and we're proud of you for being so brave! Cant wait to see you again in February half term!

There was a lot of stuff that initially she didn't want to do, but then with the encouragement and help you guys gave, well she must've felt the ability to do it because she went and did it, and that was really surprising for me, to see her go through that little challenge, you know have that little minute with herself and pluck up the courage to do it. It just goes to credit you guys really, how you create that kind of atmosphere where people feel comfortable and they’re willing to do things that initially they don’t think they can do.
